Katharina Wolf is part of the Clubtopia team and advises clubs on sustainability. At this year's Most Wanted: Music, she spoke about her work and her unusual career path. We asked her a few questions about this.

INTERVIEW  Boris Messing

CCB Magazine: How often do you wake up in the morning and think, oh God, I have to go to work again?

Katharina Wolf: Haha, not really at all. I usually look forward to seeing my colleagues and starting the day. I'm just a night owl and therefore start the day a little later.

CCB Magazine:What do you like most about your job?

Katharina Wolf:I would say being able to make a difference together. And I'm grateful when we've been able to really help a club through a consultation and they find out how they can save CO2. I also find it exciting to see venues during the day, outside of the party business.

CCB Magazine:Tell us briefly: How did you come to do what you do?

Katharina Wolf:I've always wanted to combine sustainability and event management, which is why I ended up at Clubtopia. Further education, networking and advice on sustainability topics in the club are simply great fun and combine two things that are close to my heart. I previously studied geoecology, i.e. environmental sciences, and always organized events and festivals on the side. My aim was to combine both subjects, so I looked for a Master's degree in this area. But there wasn't one available, so I studied sustainable tourism management. At the same time, I volunteered for the Clubmob.Berlin initiative. Together with a few friends, we then founded the clubliebe e.V. association, which in turn launched the Clubtopia project with BUND Berlin.

CCB Magazine:What were your biggest mistakes along the way?

Katharina Wolf:Phew, that's a difficult question. Every situation that perhaps doesn't turn out the way you expected creates new opportunities to do something different. To make a new decision or to let go of things that aren't getting you anywhere. I tried my hand at programming from time to time, but quickly realized that I'd rather not do it and leave it to others. Nevertheless, I found the experience interesting.

CCB Magazine:Who would you say your type of work is suitable for? What qualifications does it require?

Katharina Wolf:You need a certain amount of knowledge about sustainability and climate protection. I give a lot of talks, workshops and training courses on sustainable event management - you have to be good at it. And you need a certain basic motivation, which is also a very important point. Wanting to pass on knowledge, but also to network people and create opportunities for exchange - you have to enjoy it and like it, because that's a big part of my work. If you enjoy all these activities, then my type of work is certainly suitable for you.

CCB Magazine:How will your work change the music industry?

Katharina Wolf:Hopefully in a way that we can continue to enjoy great music, events and concerts for many years to come. It would be wonderful if event organizers could integrate the circular economy, zero waste and sustainability concepts directly into their everyday work. Then we can all go partying without a guilty conscience!
