How can you find the right artist for your specific occasion? How can we connect artists with companies and private clients? “Book a Street Artist” does exactly that. This year the team takes part in the "Investors Lab - Invest in Creativity". In part 5 our interview series we asked the company: What does the business model look like? And why should investors invest in such a business?

Kreativ Kultur Berlin: Hi, first of all, please introduce yourself: Who are you, what do you do, why should people know you?

Book a Street Artist: Hi, we are “Book a Street Artist” (BASA). And we are on an exciting mission: We want to build a bridge between independent artists and everyone who is seeking high-quality artistic services. We observed two central things: On one hand many street artists are unbelievably talented, on the other hand they are often overlooked and undervalued. Here we came up with the idea of a platform to support independent artists. Companies or private clients can book artists via our platform. With our expertise and technology people find the perfect match at any moment. Live graffiti painting, immersive installations, indie pop bands, tape art, or video mapping - with us everyone finds the right artist to highlight your company event, conference, or living room surprise.

Kreativ Kultur Berlin:You applied for the Investors Lab. Why should investors invest in a company like yours?

Book a Street Artist:We are not bloody beginners. We have been around for some years now. And we know our market, our clients, our artists. We also know our numbers and can make decisions moving forward based on data and proven experience. We have proven our concept with +1.9 million euros booked in artistic services on our platform. We are trusted by some of the biggest brands in the world like Airbnb, Google, Siemens or Cisco who love our service and come back several times to book our artists. And: We have been backed financially by angels that are happy with our progress and are looking forward to the next round. I think that our project can be very interesting for investors.

Kreativ Kultur Berlin:What do you expect from such an investment in your company? And what steps do you want to take afterwards?

Book a Street Artist:We want smart money, which means money from business angels, Venture Capital-companies but also corporations or institutional investors. We are looking for an investor that helps us grow our brand awareness and marketing efforts, online or offline, ideally with connections or experience in selling to brands. Experience with growing marketplaces across different countries is a big plus. In the next two years, we aim to become the go-to match-maker for high-quality artistic services amongst brands and companies in Germany and Europe.

Kreativ Kultur Berlin:How do you build a business like yours? Which hurdles have to be overcome? What do I have to be aware of? Which financing strategy do you pursue or which financing methods have you used to build up your business?

Book a Street Artist:So far we have raised angel money to build our technology and proven our business model with sales. We are already generating revenue and our strategy moving forward is to grow our brand recognition and grow our b2b sales. So far we have managed to reach most of our b2b clients with organic channels (SEO). So far so good, but we see an opportunity to build stronger channels like referrals, and not depend much on organic ones. In the longer run, important industry players like Cirque du Soleil, Universal Music, or Live Nation could play an important role as a partner/shareholder in BASA’s quest for global expansion. One of the biggest hurdles is to be remembered as the go-to platform right at the moment when a brand manager or event organizer needs a cool artist for their occasion.

Kreativ Kultur Berlin:What do you expect from the Investors Lab? Where and how do you see your future?

Book a Street Artist:From Investors Lab we would like to get visibility. We want to share our story with the Lab’s network and maybe get some clients and mentors from it. We see ourselves as the number one global platform for connecting brands with the coolest independent artists for marketing campaigns, events, and other brand initiatives.
