A new study by the state-owned development bank as part of the start-up monitor reveals: "In addition to the profit target, social entrepreneurs have anchored a social or ecological concern at the top of their target system and are therefore foregoing possible returns," explained KfW chief economist Jörg Zeuner to the Tagesspiegel. According to the data, there were 154,000 founders in 2017 who managed 108,000 companies with a social and ecological focus - around 9 percent of the still active start-ups in the last five years prior to the survey.
